GMM Insurance—About Us

Marilyn Gray

Marilyn Gray
A founding partner and the “G” in GMM, Marilyn Gray has been in the insurance business since childhood, literally. The daughter of independent insurance agents who started their West Columbia family business when she was just six, Gray has strong roots not just in the insurance industry, but also in the community as well.

As the immediate past president and current board member of the West Metro Chamber of Commerce in West Columbia, she is one of the most recognizable faces in the community, balancing her time between civic duty and professional service.

Gray is also a founding member of the West Metro Rotary Club, a board member of Leadership Lexington County and the Greater Lexington Chamber of Commerce, president of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, and treasurer of the Airport High School Foundation. In addition, she teaches religious education at St. Peter’s Church, where she also sings in the contemporary choral ensemble. She is married to Bill Gray and has five grown children. “Our customers are part of our family. We look out for them. We value each customer as an individual and work hard for them. We started this agency to serve people. We really care that we do what is right for you.”

Shawn Miller

Shawn Miller
A Spring Valley High School graduate who attended the University of South Carolina, Shawn Miller has been a resident of the Columbia area for 40 years. Another founding partner of GMM, he moved into insurance after spending 10 years in the long-term care industry serving as the point of contact for two groups of assisted living and skilled nursing facilities spanning South Carolina.

Shawn is a licensed Community Residential Care Administrator, and GMM’s specialization in long-term care insurance is due in no small part to his background and expertise in the industry. A husband to Cindy Miller and father of three beautiful daughters, Miller is also active in the community, serving as president of the Golden Hills Men’s Golf Association.

“I always try to put myself in my customers’ situation and treat my customer as I would want to be treated. Our goal is to help the customer decide which risks they want to transfer and which they want to assume for themselves. Through personal interaction with the customer we will make sure that you know exactly what coverage(s) are available to cover the risk.”

Teresa Smith

Teresa Smith
Teresa Smith is a former stay-at-home mom whose earlier career in insurance led her back to the working world – and to GMM. A devoted mother of two daughters and wife to Randy Smith for 24 years, she also manages to find the time to take an active role in her community.

Teresa is a member of the newly formed arm of Lake Murray Lions Club, an Ambassador for the West Metro Chamber of Commerce, and a member of the Lexington Chamber of Commerce, where she also serves on the Gala and Golf Committees. She is a visitor's hostess for the capital city chapter of Business Network International, a member of the Brookland-Cayce Bearcats Booster Club and of the Airport Education Foundation Committee, and she is an active member of Mt. Hebron United Methodist Church.

"I'd recommend people choose a GMM agent to become THEIR insurance agent because we genuinely care about our customers. We build personal relationships with our customers and are always in contact with them. Our staff sends out birthday and holiday cards throughout the year to let them know that we appreciate them and the business that they have entrusted us with. Lastly, the office employees at GMM go out of their way to make sure that all of the day-to-day processing of business is handled in a timely fashion."
